After years of abandonment and persistent public concern, the long-neglected bridge linking Busua and Dixcove in Ghana’s Western Region is finally undergoing a major rehabilitation, bringing renewed hope to residents and commuters who rely on the vital route.
The bridge, which had deteriorated into a dangerous state over the years, posed serious safety risks to motorists, pedestrians, and traders. Its poor condition not only threatened lives but also disrupted economic activities, slowing down trade, fishing operations, tourism, and the smooth movement of goods between the two coastal towns.
Relief is now in sight. Recent site visits indicate significant progress on the rehabilitation works, with construction steadily advancing. The development has sparked excitement and optimism among residents, many of whom describe the project as long overdue after years of appeals and complaints.
According to information available, the bridge is expected to be fully completed by the end of January 2026. Once finished, it is anticipated to greatly improve road safety, reduce travel time, and restore confidence among road users along the Busua – Dixcove corridor.
The bridge serves as a crucial link for communities within the Ahanta West enclave and surrounding areas, supporting tourism, fishing, and local commerce in the Western Region. Its facelift is expected to rejuvenate economic activities and strengthen connectivity between coastal towns.
As work continues, residents are hopeful that the renewed bridge will not only stand the test of time but also symbolize renewed attention to infrastructure development in the Western Region ensuring safer travel and improved livelihoods for years to come.
