As Ghana continues to grapple with pressing sanitation challenges, the need to instil responsible sanitation practices in the younger generation has become more urgent than ever.
In response, Adisadel College, in collaboration with the Central Regional Education Directorate, has held a Schools and Colleges Sanitation Ambassadors Youth Forum. The forum was aimed at promoting proper sanitation practices and empowering students to become advocates for a cleaner, greener, and more sustainable environment.
Speaking at the forum, the Central Regional Director of Education, Dr. Mrs. Juliette Dufie Otami, said the new senior high school curriculum seeks to move students beyond rote learning to critical thinking, practical problem-solving, and active citizenship, with character and discipline as key pillars.
She noted that the principles of discipline and responsibility promoted by the new curriculum should be reflected in the everyday conduct of students, particularly those serving as sanitation ambassadors.
Dr. Otami therefore urged the ambassadors to lead by example by keeping their classrooms, dormitories, and school compounds clean and to resist peer pressure to vandalise school property.
She also called on the wider community to support school authorities in promoting discipline and reinforcing national values, respect for authority, and civic responsibility among students.

Meanwhile, the Metropolitan Chief Executive for Cape Coast, Mr. George Justice Arthur, reaffirmed the Assembly’s commitment to supporting the Sanitation Ambassadors as part of efforts to make Cape Coast cleaner and greener.
He said the Assembly’s “Clean Cape Coast” initiative aims to move the city from mere discussions on sanitation to concrete action, with a focus on ending indiscriminate dumping and promoting tree planting.
As part of measures to sustain the campaign, the MCE outlined initiatives including a zero-litter campaign and the establishment of plastic collection points in schools.
He also announced a two-day clean-up exercise across the metropolis ahead of the Oguaa Fetu Afahye celebration and urged residents to actively participate in keeping Cape Coast clean and welcoming to visitors.
