Private Legal Practitioner Captain(Retired) Nkrabeah Effah Dartey says the High Court Judge who sat on the GHc25 million defamation case between Anas Aremeyaw Anas and Kennedy Agyapong was too charitable to Anas because he (Anas) would have been killed if the matter happened in other parts of the world.
“In fact, Anas should even thank his God… he would have been killed from the surface of the earth long ago if it had happened in other parts of the world.” Lawyer Nkrabeah Effah Dartey told Angel FM in an interview monitored by MyNewsGH.com.
A High Court Judge in Accra Justice Eric Baah dismissed a suit filed by investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas against Assin Central Member of Parliament(MP) Mr Kennedy Agyapong.
The investigative journalist had dragged the businessman and politician before the court over some defamatory comments he made against him after airing his investigative piece #Number 12, which exposed some alleged rots in Ghana Football.
Justice Eric Baah, a Justice of the Court of Appeal who was sitting with additional responsibility as a High Court judge, in delivering his judgement said Anas Aremeyaw Anas’ case had no merit.
The judge also questioned the style of journalism by the Plaintiff, Anas Aremeyaw Anas.
But speaking in an interview, Lawyer Effah Dartey insisted that, the High Court Judge Justice Eric Baah was charitable in the judgement he passed.
“If you ask, I would say the judge was even too charitable to Anas. The judge didn’t do it to Anas enough because there is nothing more painful than for someone to lie about you where you have nobody to defend you.” Lawyer Effah Dartey noted.
Sharing his past experience, Lawyer Nkrabeah Effah Dartey revealed that, he was sentenced to eleven months imprisonment and also sacked from Ghana Armed Forces because someone lied against him.
