Professor Richardson Addai-Mununkum, a Professor of Curriculum and Pedagogy at the University of Education, Winneba, has dismissed recent criticism of the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NaCCA) as “purely political and unfounded.”

The controversy stems from a teacher’s manual for Physical Education and Health (Elective), which contained content on gender identity that has since been withdrawn.

Speaking on GBC Radio Central’s Morning Show, Thursday, January 15, 2026, Prof. Addai-Mununkum attributed the “over-politicisation” of the issue to Rev. John Ntim Fordjour, the MP for Assin South.

He emphasized that the inclusion of the disputed material was an error, not a deliberate government action. “Governments do not deliberately interfere in curriculum content development,” he stated, explaining that while the government appoints NaCCA’s head, the actual curriculum is developed by over 200 non-partisan professionals.

“The political football regarding education issues doesn’t help anyone’s cause,” he lamented.

Prof. Addai-Mununkum pointed out that Ntim Fordjour was Deputy Minister of Education when the curriculum was developed, implying the MP shares responsibility. “If politicians are to be held accountable for the current impasse, then he ought to bear responsibility,” he clarified.

The professor defended NaCCA’s decision to recall the manuals as a rational act of good faith. He assured parents and stakeholders that the content was only in the teacher’s manual, not student textbooks, and was unlikely to be taught given Ghana’s cultural context.

“Based on our ethos, gender is purely male and female with no other variations,” he said, calling the incident an unfortunate error. “I was part of the curriculum development team tasked with ensuring our cultural values are reflected. This is simply unfortunate, but no reason for alarm.”

He concluded by urging the public to remain calm, stating the issue was being resolved holistically by professionals.

ACCRA – Ola Maame, founder of The Ola’s Herbal and Spiritual Center (Soul Travel, Ghana), has summoned controversial pastor Prophet Jedidiah Henry Kore, known as “Fire Oja,” before the Nae We Arbitration Court following a series of defamatory remarks he made against her and veteran musician Mzbel.

The move came on Thursday, January 8, 2026, when Ola Maame, accompanied by her entourage, presented her petition to Nuumo Akwaa Mensah III (the Nae Wulomo), the Highest Chief Priest and custodian of Ga traditions. She seeks redress for what she describes as “unguarded and highly defamatory” public statements made by the pastor.

After preliminary rituals, Maame formally notified the traditional court of her intention to press four specific counts against Fire Oja: labelling her a prostitute; accusing her of infidelity; falsely claiming her seven-year-old son is not her husband’s child; branding her a “fake spiritualist”,; and alleging she caused individuals to develop schizophrenia lastly claiming She is defrauding poeple with her work

The Nae We Traditional Court, located in Gbese, Jamestown, is a longstanding dispute-resolution body within the Ga traditional justice system. It operates not as a modern legal arbitration panel, but as a customary institution employing traditional alternative dispute resolution mechanisms.

The case is scheduled for hearing on Thursday, January 15, 2026. It promises to be a closely watched confrontation as Ola Maame turns to traditional authority to defend her reputation, legacy, and personal integrity.

The Director of the Ankaful Psychiatric Hospital, Dr. Julius Xatse, has expressed gratitude to Vice President Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang for her sustained support while appealing for urgent assistance to protect the facility’s lands from encroachment, secure reliable transport, and repair its dilapidated roads.

He made this passionate appeal on Thursday, January 8, 2026, when Presidential Staffer Mr. Kakra Yalley and MP Dr. Kwamena Minta Nyarku, MP for Cape Coast North presented assorted items to the hospital on behalf of the Vice President.

The donation included 50 bags of rice, 3 sacks of sugar, 5 boxes of mackerel, 3 gallons of 25-litre oil, 2 boxes of tinned tomatoes, a basket of bread, 30 boxes of sanitary towels, 100 bags of sachet water, 30 packs of bottled water, and 3 sacks of oranges.

In appreciation, the Hospital Director noted that Prof. Opoku-Agyemang had been making generous donations to the hospital for years, even prior to her ascension to the Vice Presidency. “Madam Naana Jane has been a friend to this hospital for many years, for which we are very grateful,” he emphasized.

He seized the opportunity to outline the facility’s critical challenges, appealing for the Vice President’s intervention. “Developers are encroaching on our lands, hindering any future expansion,” he highlighted. “The hospital roads are in a deplorable state, and we lack functional vehicles for mobility and daily operations,” he revealed.

Dr. Xatse urgently appealed to the Vice President for support in acquiring a 4×4 pickup truck and a bus to transport staff and support hospital assignments.

Mr. Kakra Yalley responded promptly, urging the Director to liaise with the Regional Minister regarding the land encroachment issues and pledging to relay all their concerns to the Vice President.

Other management members present at the donation ceremony were Ms. Catherine Quarshie (Head of Administration), Mr. Vincent N.J.D. Quansah (Head of Finance), Mr. Bismark Tuffuor (Head of Nursing), Mr. Emmanuel Sakyie (Head of Pharmacy), Ms. Euphemia Duorinaa (Head of Internal Audit), and Dr. Isaac Aidoo (Clinical Coordinator).

The MP for Cape Coast North Constituency, Dr. Kwamena Minta Nyarku, has dismissed what he describes as the erroneous notion that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) uses its overwhelming parliamentary majority to bully the minority.

He characterized such claims as inaccurate and unfounded.

In an interview on GBC Radio Central on Friday, January 9, 2026, to account for his one-year stewardship in his second term, the MP—popularly known as Ragga—underscored that all parliamentary processes and procedures are governed by standing orders, preventing any side from bullying the other.

He contended, however, that it is the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) that has predominantly used the media to address issues, a practice he believes is unnecessary. “For the slightest matters, the opposition runs to the media with hurried press conferences that haven’t been thoroughly examined,” he stated.

Dr. Nyarku revealed that during parliamentary proceedings, the NPP minority often insists on a head count rather than the customary voice vote. “Whenever the NPP has called on the Speaker to use a headcount to resolve an issue, the Speaker has granted that request,” he emphasized. “No one has bullied anyone in Parliament,” he stressed.

The MP attributed the NDC’s large parliamentary majority to the will of Ghanaians, urging the public to trust the party to use its numbers for national development.

He expressed the opinion that some minority press conferences have propagated falsehoods, adding that if the NDC were truly bullying the opposition, some members would have found themselves on the wrong side of the law.

Dr. Nyarku concluded by asking for public patience with the current government and expressing confidence in President John Dramani Mahama’s ability to deliver in his final term. “He is the only Ghanaian to have been President three times. I know he will deliver; his first year has been very successful, and all Ghanaians are beginning to feel it,” he said.

In a landmark initiative to enhance the sanitary conditions of Cape Coast and establish it as a premier tourist destination, the Cape Coast Metropolitan Assembly (CCMA) unveiled its inaugural cohort of Sanitation Ambassadors.

The official announcement was made on Thursday, January 8, 2026, by Nana Kweku Arhin, Deputy Media Manager for the assembly, and was subsequently published on his Facebook wall.

DC Kwame Kwakye, a distinguished broadcast journalist and fatherhood advocate at GBC Radio Central, was recognized as one of the ambassadors for his instrumental role in emphasizing environmental cleanliness, championing citizens’ rights, and urging relevant authorities to take action for the improvement of the metropolis and the nation as a whole.

Upon citing the announcement, Kwakye noted that it was a humbling experience for the CCMA to bestow upon him such an honour, pledging to devote himself to improving the overall sanitation situation of the assembly.

“I wouldn’t take this for granted. If the CCMA under the leadership of George Justice Arthur has deemed me worthy, I am humbled to contribute my expertise towards enhancing the sanitary conditions of the metropolis”, he stated

On the contrary he underscored “Most leaders get offended when societal issues are highlighted; this reflects the MCE’s leadership style, demonstrating inclusivity and a willingness to serve. Thank you once again to the CCMA for the honour bestowed upon me and Congratulations to us”, he stated.

As a distinguished Broadcast Journalist who has devoted most of his endeavours to advocating for societal reforms, ‘I perceive this accolade as a testament to my dedication’, he emphasized.

Sanitation Ambassadors are community advocates and implementers who promote hygiene, cleanliness, and sustainable waste management, often by contributing to installation of innovative sanitation systems, educating the public, and creating local jobs in managing these systems, focusing on solutions that are environmentally friendly and serve underserved areas, transforming waste into resources like fertilizer.

Other distinguished sons and daughters included in the list are Apostle Emmanuel Abeiku Aggrey, IamDr Spice, Frank Asorba Kofi Essuman, Saint Akapo, Michael Bosomtwe, Daniel Appiah, Frederick Addison, Nana Brown, Kob Man, Richard Hagan, Nana Yarquah, Newlords Gh, Nana Ayensu, Kwesi Oppong and Buzstop Boys.

In conjunction with prison reform and rehabilitation efforts under the Think Prisons 360 initiative, the Ankaful Main Camp Prison has hosted its inaugural award ceremony, recognizing inmates for their diligence, discipline, consistent hard work, talent development and creativity.

The program, spearheaded by Chief Superintendent Of Prisons (CSP) Linda Anyeema-Ma Apore, the Officer-In-Cahrge of the Ankaful Main Camp Prison, took place on Friday, 2nd January, 2026, and aimed at motivating well-behaved inmates to excel while serving as a model for others to emulate.

Sharing some motivating factors behind the award scheme, CSP Apore noted that it centered on how effectively the rehabilitation and reformation exercises have been integrated by inmates, including how inmates maintain hygiene and enhance sanitary conditions in the various cells and blocks.

Again, the award was designed to motivate inmates who have demonstrated discipline in their various fields of training, with the goal of guiding them on the right path to continue, while encouraging others to follow their positive example. “The transfer of industry skills and learning was rewarded to motivate them to remain in the training centers and also become role models for others”, CSP Apore explained.

To promote community development and creativity, the Main Camp Awards event also provided inmates with an opportunity to showcase their talents in various sporting disciplines, including football and volleyball.

In recognition of their individual and collective efforts, the Overall Best Cell received a 32-inch LED television set and The Neatest Cell received an industrial wall fan as prizes. On sporting activities, the winning football and volleyball teams were awarded trophies in recognition of their efforts.

The most diligent inmate in the Agric Department and the kitchens also received an award, while other categories were honoured with trophies, medals, personal hygiene products, and assorted food items, amongst others.

Chief Superintendent of Prisons, Linda Anyeema-Ma Apore, the Officer-In-Charge of Ankaful Main Camp Prison, utilized the opportunity to request public visitation to the prisons in order to check up on their families.

Again, she passionately appealed to the general public to support the Prisons by patronizing the Prisons’ products (Prindbuz Limited) and also make meaningful contributions to the PISPES fund. As part of the Think Prisons 360 initiative, she urged all stakeholders to support the prisons, particularly the Ankaful Main Camp projects, to achieve the desired impact.
