Black Sherif
Ghana’s chart-topping music sensation Black Sherif has found himself at the center of a growing legal storm, as reports emerge that an Adentan District Court has dragged the award-winning artiste into a heated GH¢229,500 rent dispute.

The “Kwaku the Traveller” hitmaker is alleged to have defaulted on rent payments for a high-end Accra property, with the landlord identified as Dr. Evelyn Esi Awittor claiming the arrears have been piling up since August 2024. According to court filings, the unpaid rent has now ballooned into a staggering six-figure amount.

Things took a dramatic turn after attempts to personally serve Black Sherif reportedly failed, forcing the court to approve substituted service. Legal documents were allegedly posted at the property and on the court’s notice board, allowing proceedings to move forward even in the musician’s absence.

Reports further claim the court directed Black Sherif to settle the GH¢229,500 arrears and continue paying monthly rent until he vacates the premises. However, other sources insist the matter is still unfolding and yet to reach a final judgment.

The Member of Parliament for Cape Coast South, George Kweku Ricketts-Hagan, hosted a festive gathering for more than 2,000 children in the constituency on Sunday, January 4, 2026. The event, held at the historic Victoria Park in Cape Coast, was framed as an expression of gratitude for seeing in the new year.

“We are here to thank the Almighty God for bringing us into 2026,” Ricketts-Hagan stated. “We are grateful to be alive, healthy, and hopeful to witness many more years to come,” he emphasized.

Shifting to national affairs, the MP reflected on the economic challenges inherited by the previous John Mahama administration. He expressed optimism that 2026 would see brighter prospects and improved infrastructure development under President Mahama’s “reset” agenda.

Ricketts-Hagan also highlighted his collaboration with the newly appointed Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE), George Justice Arthur. “As I lobby for development for the constituency, the MCE will implement these plans for the betterment of our society,” he said. “He will consolidate our gains and introduce innovative ideas to propel Cape Coast forward.”

The MP thanked his constituents for renewing his mandate and pledged to redouble his efforts in service.

Also addressing the gathering, MCE George Justice Arthur noted the unprecedented scale of the event and gave thanks for the well-being of the metropolis. He delivered a strong admonition on the value of education.

“Education is the great leveller; it is how we have ascended to our current positions in society,” Arthur stated. “If you aspire to become an MP, a Finance Minister, or even the President, you must take your education very seriously.”

Tracing his own journey from being the NDC’s Constituency Secretary three years prior to his current role, the MCE said, “This proves that with dedication and education, anyone can achieve great heights.”

He reminded the children that the MP’s annual party serves not only as a communal celebration but also as a platform to encourage every child in the constituency to prioritize their studies.

In closing, he reiterated, “Whether you aspire to be like President Mahama, MP Ricketts-Hagan, or myself, the key is education.”

The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service has arrested and charged controversial pastor Prophet Jedidiah Henry Kore, popularly known as Fire Oja, for making defamatory statements and issuing threats against veteran musician Belinda Nana Ekua Amoah, known professionally as Mzbel.

The arrest follows a formal complaint lodged by Mzbel concerning a viral social media video in which Fire Oja, leader of Zion Prayer Ministries International, made unsubstantiated claims about the singer’s health following a spiritual “Soul Travel” experience at Ola Maame’s Soul Travel Ghana in 2025.

In an interview with Nyansa TV on Monday, January 5, 2026, Mzbel confirmed she reported the matter after being inundated with messages about the video. The police subsequently invited Prophet Fire Oja, who presented himself for questioning on Monday.

“At the CID headquarters, Fire Oja admitted he did not know me and apologized for his unsavory comments,” Mzbel stated.

She explained that police investigators outlined the legal seriousness of his actions by referencing relevant sections of the Constitution. They informed him he would be detained for 48 hours and processed for court.

However, after Fire Oja accepted the charges, the police later contacted Mzbel to state that further detention was unnecessary. “I was satisfied with the police action and the legal process they initiated against the accused,” she emphasized.

The controversy stems from Fire Oja’s claims that Mzbel suffered severe health complications and was hospitalized in Kasoa after her “Soul Travel” experience allegations the singer firmly denies.

“Those comments are completely unfounded. I was not admitted to any hospital after my Soul Travel Experience, nor did I receive any infusion at a health facility,” Mzbel clarified. “Anyone with evidence to the contrary should present it.”

The case is now set for court proceedings.

In a dual effort to support the less privileged and party executives during the Christmas season, the Member of Parliament for Cape Coast North Constituency, Dr Kwamena Minta Nyarku, has donated over 2000 bags of rice and litres of oil to Persons with Disabilities (PWDs), the aged, and National Democratic Congress (NDC) executive officers in his constituency.

The donation exercise, which took place on Wednesday, 24th December 2024, at his residence, aimed to provide sustenance for the underprivileged and the elderly, support persons with disabilities, and express appreciation to his constituency executives for their outstanding efforts in securing the NDC’s victory in the 2024 general elections.

In his goodwill message to the Constituency Executives, “Ragga”, as he is popularly known, expressed his gratitude for their unwavering dedication to the party’s cause over the years.

“I personally extend my gratitude to you for your invaluable contributions and diligent efforts in securing the party’s victory,” he said. “I am here to present you with this token as a symbol of appreciation for your work for the NDC, particularly in ensuring I retained my seat,” he stressed.

Speaking on the conduct of party members, especially now that they are in government, Dr Nyarku urged them to be mindful that their actions could affect the party’s fortunes. He encouraged them to exercise restraint and continue working hard, assuring them that opportunities would arise in due time.

“The party has barely spent a year in government,” he reminded them. “As your dedicated Member of Parliament, I will endeavour to secure opportunities for my constituents as and when they arise,” he emphasised.

WhatsApp Image 2025 12 29 at 5.23.31 AM 1In a bid to provide vocational training for young individuals, the Obaapa Fatimah Amoadu Foundation (OFAF) was formally inaugurated, culminating in the graduation of 55 artisans from its inaugural training programme.

Organized under the theme “The Future Is Handmaking,” the event held at Mankessim in the Central Region on Saturday, December 27, 2025, underscored the significance of craftsmanship, vocational education, and hands-on skills in fostering sustainable livelihoods and economic empowerment.

The ceremony attracted a distinguished gathering of traditional authorities, political leaders, Christian clergy, and representatives of Islamic missions, reflecting broad-based support for skills development as a tool for community transformation.

Speaking at the event, the founder of the foundation and deputy managing director of the Cocoa Processing Company (CPC), Fatimah Amoadu, recounted that OFAF was established in Accra about ten years ago but later relocated its operations to the Ekumfi Traditional Area to directly support the local community.

“This foundation started in Accra about ten years ago, but it was important to bring it home to Ekumfi to support my own people and help them build sustainable livelihoods,” she said.

A native of Ekumfi Immuna and Srafa, Amoadu explained that her decision to return home was driven by a desire to empower young people, particularly girls, through sustainable skills training rather than short-term support.

“Our focus has always been on teaching young girls how to fish rather than giving them fish,” she explained. “When you equip someone with a skill, you give them dignity, independence, and a future.”

She disclosed that 100 girls from Ekumfi were enrolled in an artisanal training programme four years ago, of whom 55 have now successfully graduated, while the remaining trainees are still undergoing instruction.

The trainees received instruction in hairdressing, fashion design, and baking, equipping them with employable skills for sustainable livelihoods. To further support them in launching their vocations, Amoadu presented the graduates with sewing machines, hair dryers, gas ovens, and other start-up items.

The Paramount Queen of the Ekumfi Traditional Area, Nana Benyiwa VI, commended Obaapa Fatimah Amoadu for her initiative and investment in human capital development.
“What our daughter has done is wonderful,” she said. “We ask God’s blessings upon her life so that whatever she touches will prosper.”

Nana Benyiwa VI urged the graduates to make good use of the opportunity. “To the graduates, what you have received is a great opportunity. Use it to work so that others will also benefit from you,” she advised.

Meanwhile, the Chief of Ekumfi Srafa and Sumankwahen of the Ekumfi Traditional Area, Nana Nyeiku VII, appealed to the foundation to consider including boys in future skills training programmes. “When you look at the beneficiaries, they are not fairly balanced,” Nana observed. “There’s no boy amongst them. I suggest boys must be considered in subsequent programmes.”

Representing the Central Regional Coordinator for the Apprenticeship Programme, the Deputy Youth Organiser of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Kojo Gyamfi, described the OFAF training initiative as being in line with the vision of a Mahama-led government, which seeks to train between one and five million youths in various skill sets nationwide.

“Youth unemployment can only be tackled when skills development is prioritised,” he emphasised. “Initiatives like this play a critical role in complementing government efforts.”

He underscored that the foundation’s activities align perfectly with the government’s vision to train youth with employable skills to ameliorate unemployment in Ghana.

Appealing for more such opportunities, Mr Gyamfi urged well-meaning Ghanaians to emulate and replicate the efforts of Obaapa Fatimah Amoadu in their respective communities, noting that private initiatives remain crucial in complementing government empowerment programmes.

The launch and graduation ceremony marked a major milestone for the Obaapa Fatimah Amoadu Foundation, reinforcing the role of vocational skills and community-driven initiatives in tackling youth unemployment. With plans to expand its training programmes, the Foundation is poised to continue empowering more young people in Ekumfi and across the Central Region through practical skills development and entrepreneurship.
