In a decisive effort to find a lasting solution to the dysfunctional Mumford Fishing Harbour, the Office of Captaine Blessed Godsbrain Smart has commended President Mahama’s government for swiftly responding to a petition submitted by his office regarding the stalled project.
In a strongly worded statement of appreciation issued and signed on Thursday, October 15, 2026, by Captaine Blessed Godsbrain Smart on behalf of the Mumford community, the office expressed gratitude to President Mahama for his timely intervention in finding a lasting solution to the uncompleted harbour.
“On behalf of the chiefs, fisherfolk, fish processors, traders, youth and the entire Mumford community, I respectfully express our profound gratitude to Your Excellency for responding swiftly to my petition concerning the completion of the Mumford Fishing Harbour,” the statement stressed.
The statement further noted that the President’s directive to the Central Regional Minister and the Ministry of Transport to visit the project site, conduct the necessary assessment and develop an appropriate plan for its completion has renewed the hope of an entire community and demonstrated compassionate, responsive governance.
“Mr President, this decisive intervention demonstrates responsive and compassionate leadership,” the statement asserted, underscoring the government’s readiness to respond to the needs of ordinary citizens.
“It confirms that under your leadership, the concerns of ordinary citizens and deprived communities will not disappear into bureaucratic silence. You have listened, understood and acted—and the people of Mumford are deeply grateful,” it stressed.
The Mumford Fishing Harbour is more than an infrastructure project. It represents the economic heartbeat and future of a hardworking coastal community. Its completion will improve the safety and productivity of fisherfolk, enhance fish handling and processing, create employment opportunities for the youth, stimulate local commerce and provide greater economic security for the many women whose livelihoods depend on fishing and related activities.
For the people of Mumford, “this project represents dignity, opportunity, prosperity and renewed confidence in the future,” the statement said.
On expectations from the Mumford community, the statement further held that President Mahama’s singular intervention has transformed a long-standing expectation into a credible pathway towards action. It asserted: “The people will remember that when their concerns were respectfully brought before you, you did not hesitate to respond.”
Regarding the handling of the petition, the statement argued that a petition becomes meaningful when leadership listens; hope becomes credible when leadership acts; and development becomes possible when political authority is exercised with compassion, urgency and purpose.
For its part, Team Smart stands ready to cooperate fully with the Central Regional Minister, the Ministry of Transport, the relevant technical agencies and all other institutions assigned to undertake the inspection, assessment and completion planning.
In sum, although Team Smart and the grateful people of Mumford extend a heartfelt thank you to the President, they respectfully trust that this important directive will be implemented expeditiously and ultimately lead to the mobilisation of the necessary resources for the successful completion of the harbour.
