A 40-year-old gold dealer, Seth Kobina, was shot dead during an armed robbery at his shop at Agona Fie, near Agona Nkwanta in the Western Region last Thursday.
The incident has led to the arrest of five suspects, but one of them has since died while in custody.
According to the police, armed men attacked Kobina’s gold dealer shop at about 8 p.m. on Thursday (August, 20, 2026), and shot him in the chest.
He was taken to the Agona Nkwanta Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.
The police said preliminary investigations, including a review of CCTV footage from the scene, led to the identification of 29-year-old Emmanuel Amponsah, alias “Vandam”, as the alleged leader of the gang.
Amponsah was arrested at a guest house in Agona Nkwanta on August, 21, 2026.
A search conducted on him led to the recovery of a locally manufactured pistol and two live BB cartridges.
The police said Amponsah subsequently took ill and was rushed to the Effia Nkwanta Regional Hospital for medical attention, but was pronounced dead on arrival.
Further investigations led to the arrest of four other suspects. They have been identified by the police as Christopher Seyiri, alias “Cross and Die”, 47; Bashiru Ibrahim, 20; Thomas Odoom, alias “Wale”, 30; and Isaac Quayeson, alias “Last Burial”.
Seyiri, Ibrahim and Odoom were arrested within the Agona Nkwanta area, while Quayeson was arrested at Denkyira Kwaboso in the Western North Region.
A search of Quayeson’s residence led to the recovery of a locally manufactured pistol, three live BB cartridges, a metal bar and two cutlasses.
The police said during investigations, Quayeson identified Amponsah as the person who shot and killed Kobina. He also identified Odoom as one of the suspects captured in the CCTV footage.
The four surviving suspects are assisting the police with investigations, while efforts are underway to arrest other accomplices linked to the robbery and murder.
