Major upset in Ghana Premier League title race as Medeama crush Hearts of Oak 5-1


The race for the coveted 2022/23 Ghana Premier League trophy took an unexpected twist on Sunday as Medeama SC delivered a resounding victory over Hearts of Oak, completely reshaping the dynamics of the title race with just three matches left.

In a pivotal Week 31 clash at the Accra Sports Stadium, Medeama SC made the trip to face Hearts of Oak, each team carrying distinct objectives.

Medeama SC aimed to secure a crucial win to bolster their title aspirations, while Hearts of Oak sought to claim three points to enhance their chances of a top-four finish.

The encounter proved to be a pulsating affair, with Medeama SC emerging triumphant by dismantling Hearts of Oak with a resounding 5-1 scoreline at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.

Derrick Fordjour gave the visitors the lead 17 minutes in before Salifu Ibrahim equalized from the spot for the Phobians.

Medeama then struck twice in the 34th and 42nd minutes through Vincent Atingah and Jonathan Sowah, respectively to go into the break 3-1 up.

The Yellow and Mauves then scored twice again in the 85th and 89th minutes through Jonathn Sowah again and Kwasi Donsu, respectively to wrap up the win.

Medeama now sit top of the table with 53 points, a point above Aduana while Hearts of Oak are 7th with 45 points.
