Veteran broadcast journalist and National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary aspirant for Gomoa West, Blessed Godsbrain Smart popularly known as Captain Smart—has launched a social intervention programme offering free WiFi, driver’s licences, and Ghana Cards to qualified residents of the constituency.
Mr Smart announced the initiative on his Onua Maakye Show on Onua TV/FM on Wednesday, 8 July 2026. He disclosed that he had already covered all costs for the services and cautioned constituents against paying any fees to third parties for the licences or national identity cards.
Explaining the rationale behind the free WiFi rollout, Mr Smart pointed to economic hardships that have left many residents unable to afford data. “There are not enough economic activities within the constituency; people do not have money to buy data,” he said. “I am providing free WiFi for the entire constituency to aid pupils and students in their learning.” He added that five second-cycle schools in the area lack internet access, forcing students to rely on teachers’ personal hotspots to complete homework—a situation he described as “unhealthy” and unsustainable.
Beyond the immediate interventions, the media personality outlined a broader development agenda, including the construction of seven AstroTurf pitches should he be elected Member of Parliament. “I have purchased a mower for the people of Dego to maintain their park,” he revealed, adding that the seven turfs would significantly raise sports standards across the constituency.
Mr Smart urged constituents to remain patient, emphasising that the projects would be executed in phases. “I plead with my constituents to exercise patience,” he said. “It will be the turn of each community as the work progresses.”
