Gomoa Dawurampong – The National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary aspirant for Gomoa West, Captaine Blessed Godsbrain Smart, has presented mattresses, chop boxes and trunks to 100 first-year Senior High School (SHS) students under his school improvement and educational support initiative.

The presentation ceremony was held on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, at the Gomoa Dawurampong Community Centre.

Speaking to journalists on the sidelines of the event, Captaine Smart, as he is affectionately known, said the initiative was aimed at providing relief to parents whose wards are transitioning to senior high school by supplying essential items they need for meaningful academic work.

On his motivation, Smart said it was heartbreaking to learn that some students were at home because their parents could not afford trunks, mattresses and chop boxes for them. “I had to find the money at all costs to provide this educational support,” he emphasised.

He added that wealth is not the acquisition of material possessions, an admonition he received from his grandmother. That has guided his life and underpins his unwavering support for the good people of Gomoa West. “These gestures are part of service to God, and we cannot allow kids to stay home just because of trunks, chop boxes and mattresses,” Smart stressed.

Highlighting his decision to provide support for the students, Smart underscored that although he is not yet an MP, he was impelled to offer such support as part of his overarching vision to improve educational outcomes across the constituency. He said the gesture was not all that the students required, but added: “This is my token contribution towards our future leaders and to cushion parents whose wards are entering second-cycle institutions.”

He took the opportunity to commend the parents for their relentless efforts in sponsoring their children’s education. “I thank you all parents for what you have done, and this is my token support to your children,” Smart said.

Addressing the students, the former media personality urged them to stay away from anything that could obstruct their educational attainment and to abide by the rules governing their respective schools. “I pray one day the children from Gomoa would rise to greater heights than some of us have achieved,” he said.

On poverty eradication, Smart observed that poverty levels within the Gomoa enclave were disturbing and advised the students to use education as a means to defeat poverty. “The poverty levels within Gomoa are high,” Smart noted. “We need to help change that narrative. God bless you all,” he said.

On parental responsibility, he urged parents to monitor and counsel their children to become responsible citizens.

Chief of Gomoa Dawurampong, Nana Kwako Mensah V, who also spoke at the function, applauded Smart. He expressed amazement at the extent of Smart’s involvement in the total development of Gomoa. “This event has never been witnessed in my entire life as a traditional leader,” he said. He invoked God’s blessings on the initiative.

Turning to the students, Nana Mensah urged them to make optimal use of the items presented to them. “Use them to benefit your lives and be of benefit to society at large,” he advised. He further noted that traditional leaders should not dabble in partisan politics but cannot be barred from supporting someone with good intentions and initiatives.

Similarly, Nana Aba Nkuma II, Tufuhemaa of Dawurampong, said the gesture by Team Smart had never been witnessed before. She thanked Smart for what she described as an expression of dedication and willingness toward the holistic development of Gomoa West. The Tufuhemaa admonished the students to study, pass and become good ambassadors of Team Smart’s support.

“One day, when Mr. Smart is no longer active, all of you gathered here can pay him a visit in his old age, and that will be the greatest payback for his efforts today,” she admonished the students.

Some beneficiaries who spoke to journalists thanked Smart for his support for first-year SHS students. “Some of us never expected this, and we are very delighted, and we promise never to disappoint him,” one student said. Another said, “We ask God to bless him so he can continue to support others who come after us.”
