The aspiring National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate for Gomoa West, Captain Blessed Godsbrain Smart, has urged the chiefs and people of the Gomoa Assin Akyampim Traditional Area to maintain peace, describing it as the bedrock of every functional society.
The veteran broadcaster admonished all inhabitants of Gomoa to embrace peace regardless of their differences and forge ahead to realise their common destiny.
He made the remarks at the grand durbar marking the 25th anniversary of the enstoolment of the Paramount Chief of the Gomoa Assin Akyampim Traditional Area, Obirifo Ahunako Ahor Ankobea II. The event was held at the Gomoa Ojobi Community Centre on Tuesday, September 29, 2026.
Smart, a veteran broadcaster who has carved a niche for himself as a communications and political strategist, further remarked that without the peace enjoyed over the years, the educational pursuits of their kith and kin would be thwarted. He asked: “Without peace, can children go to school? Without peace, can businesses thrive and flourish?”
Smart applauded the traditional leader for keeping peace during his 25-year reign, while encouraging the people to support the Chief’s efforts in the future.
Touching on chieftaincy conflicts in Gomoa, Smart observed that although Gomoa enjoys relative peace, there are pockets of conflict over the rightful occupation of some stools. “Sometimes, when you visit some areas within Gomoa, there is more than one occupant of a stool, and it becomes difficult to determine who sits to receive homage from guests,” he said.
He seized the opportunity to counsel the paramountcy and other traditional leaders within the Gomoa enclave to find ingenious ways of resolving such conflicts to guarantee the long-term sustainability of peace.
Turning to the gathering, he advised them to support the Chief’s endeavours, be loyal to him and honour him as the traditional authority. “A king is as big as the citizens who support and honour him,” he said, admonishing them not to denigrate or despise their king. “If you insult your king, you invoke a curse on your life,” he cautioned.
In his concluding remarks, Smart thanked the Paramount Chief and the 25th Anniversary Planning Committee, noting that it was a humbling honour to be called upon to chair the august event.
Obirifo Ahunako Ahor Ankobea II is a Ghanaian traditional ruler who has served as the Omanhene (Paramount Chief) and President of the Gomoa Assin Traditional Council in the Central Region of Ghana since 2001. He presides over a traditional area spanning more than 165 towns and villages in the Gomoa West District and surrounding areas.
He was enstooled as Omanhene in 2001 by the kingmakers of all six royal gates of the Royal Asona Family, following the death of the previous paramount chief, Okukutah Ahunaku Acquah I. This year marks his silver jubilee.
