
In a major effort to raise resources and transform Cape Coast into a world-class tourist destination, the Cape Coast Metropolitan Assembly has organised the second edition of its Forum and Fundraising exercise, geared towards the implementation of its 8-Year Development Plan.
The event was held on Thursday, 13th August 2026, at the School of Graduate Studies Auditorium, University of Cape Coast. The successful occasion brought together an array of distinguished personalities traditional leaders, government officials, academia, the clergy, the media, development partners, and sons and daughters of Cape Coast all united by a shared vision and an unwavering commitment to transforming their beloved city.
The host and Chief Executive Officer of Cape Coast, Hon. George Justice Arthur, meticulously highlighted the major sectors and projects outlined in the ambitious 8-Year Development Plan, much to the admiration of participants. He further made a full disclosure of the accounts and pledges made during the first fundraising edition held in Accra.
In a bid to secure more funding support, Arthur outlined the projects earmarked to commence in earnest as the Assembly continues to mobilise the necessary support and resources to drive the development agenda of Cape Coast.
The major highlight of the event came when the Administrator of the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF), Mr. Michael Harry Yamson, rose to speak. He assured the gathering that the stalled Anaafo Market project will soon be completed, and further promised to build an ultramodern market at Abura. This represents a significant stride towards the development of Cape Coast, underscoring the fact that Abura is now the new frontier of development for the entire metropolis.
Aside from the promises made to the people of Cape Coast, the Special Guest of Honour provided relevant updates on key development projects for the Cape Coast Metropolis.
The occasion was chaired by the Omanhen of the Oguaa Traditional Area and Council of State Member, Osabarima Dr. Kwesi Atta II, alongside members of the Oguaa Traditional Council. The event witnessed fresh pledges from individuals and stakeholders towards the implementation of the 8-Year Development Plan.

Other important dignitaries who graced the occasion included Hon. Dr. Kwamena Minta Nyarku, Member of Parliament for Cape Coast North; Mr. Sampson Ahianyo, Representative of the Member of Parliament for Cape Coast South; former Chief of Staff, Nana Ato Dadzie; Prof. Kweku A. Ayim Boakye, Vice Chancellor of Cape Coast Technical University; a representative of the Vice Chancellor of the University of Cape Coast; Dr. Mrs. Juliet Dufie Otami, Central Regional Director of Education, representing the Director-General of the Ghana Education Service; as well as other distinguished personalities.
The successful Cape Coast edition of the Forum and Fundraising on the Implementation of the 8-Year Development Plan demonstrates a resolve on the part of Cape Coast citizens to forge ahead with a common vision to transform the city into an iconic modern tourist centre.
