Popular media personality Blessed Godsbrain Smart, widely known as Captain Smart, has cut the sod for the construction of an ultra-modern Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) office at Gomoa Denkyira in the Central Region. The project marks the first such facility in the entire Gomoa enclave.
The initiative is intended to bring DVLA services closer to residents, thereby eliminating the financial and logistical burden of commuting to either Accra or Cape Coast to obtain a driver’s licence. Speaking at the well-attended sod-cutting ceremony on Saturday, July 18, 2026, Mr. Smart noted that prospective applicants from the area had often been forced to endure overnight stays in those cities simply to complete the licensing process.
Mr. Smart, who is seeking to lead the constituency as Member of Parliament, used the occasion to outline a broader development agenda for the area. He disclosed that construction materials, including hundreds of bags of cement and tons of iron rods, have already been mobilised to Gomoa Mankessim for a new clinic. He also highlighted plans to build another health facility at Gomoa Abura, which he promised to name the “Ama Beenyiwa Memorial Clinic” after the constituency’s first female MP.
“This project is dear to my heart,” he said. “It saddens me that this community has gone without a clinic for so long. Naming it after our first female MP will honour her legacy and inspire other women to serve their people well.” His announcement drew thunderous applause from the gathering.
Expressing gratitude, Captain Smart thanked the chiefs and residents of Gomoa Denkyira for organising the elaborate ceremony. “I am truly sobered to witness this large crowd, as if we were gathered for the grand durbar of our festival,” he remarked, pledging to serve the constituency to the best of his ability.
The Odikro of Gomoa Denkyira, Odiasempa Nana Yaw Tawiah, commended Mr. Smart for undertaking significant infrastructure projects despite not yet holding parliamentary office. He described the event as unprecedented in the history of the constituency and appealed to delegates of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to consider Mr. Smart as their parliamentary candidate.
“What has happened here today has never happened before in this constituency,” Nana Tawiah observed. “I entreat all delegates gathered here to consider making him your leader.”
Echoing those sentiments, former parliamentary aspirant Mr. Fareed Amoah underscored the importance of visionary leadership in national and community development. He asserted that Captain Smart embodies such qualities and urged constituents to rally behind him in order to elevate the status of the area.
