An aspiring parliamentary candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr. Captaine Blessed Godsbrain Smart popularly known as Captaine Smart has called on members of the Musama Disco Christo Church (MDCC) to take pride in their heritage as the only Ghanaian-founded church to attain a centenary milestone.
Speaking at the church’s dual celebration of its 100th anniversary and the 2026 Asemdwee Afe, held at the Gomoa Musano auditorium on Sunday, August 30, 2026, Captaine Smart noted that every other church in Ghana that has marked a century of existence was established by foreign missionaries.
Under the theme “Now May the Lord of Peace Himself Give You Peace” (2 Thessalonians 3:16), he underscored the church’s significant contributions to national cohesion, particularly within the Gomoa traditional area. “The church has contributed enormously toward building a peaceful Ghana, especially for Gomoa land and its people,” he said, urging congregants to remain proud of their ecclesiastical identity.
Reflecting on the themes of peace and longevity, Captaine Smart described the presence of many elderly members as a blessing. He encouraged younger congregants not to be discouraged by the church’s older demographic. “To have peace is to grow older,” he affirmed. “When you belong to a church with many elderly members, it suggests you will also grow old,” he said, drawing applause from the audience.
He also commended the congregation for their modest and decent attire, contrasting it with what he described as the regrettable dress culture in some contemporary churches, where sexually suggestive clothing has become prevalent. “The modesty and decency in your fashion sense is top-notch, and that tradition deserves applause,” he stressed.
A key moment of the event was Captaine Smart’s pledge to supply additional building materials to expedite the completion of a clinic he had already begun constructing for the community. He promised to name the facility the Akaboha Memorial Clinic, in honour of the church’s founder.
The programme culminated in prayers and a special anointing for Captaine Smart, led by the church leadership, including Prophet Moknajeeba Jehu-Appiah (Akaboha IV).
